Here are some agencies and on-line resources for individuals who need legal information, advice or are representing themselves in court.
Legal Self Help Services
This division provides free legal information and assistance in preparing court documents and understanding court procedures. Address: Civic Center, Hall of Justice, Room
C-27 (across from courtroom C), San Rafael. Phone: (415) 444-7130.
Marin County Bar Association, Lawyer Referral Service
Marin County Bar Association (MCBA) Lawyer Referral Service is now being offered through the San Francisco Bar Association (SFBA) at (415) 989-1616. The SFBA Lawyer Referral Service has bilingual staff members to receive calls, and they also operate a Marin Annex that includes many of the lawyers from the MCBA Lawyer Referral Service. Callers only need to state that they are seeking a Marin lawyer. The fee for a 30-minute consultation is $35.00.
Marin Lawyer Referral Service
Marin Lawyer Referral Service (MLRS) offers assistance from a trained volunteer to assess your legal needs and, if appropriate, a 30-minute consultation with an attorney. The office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00-12:30 and 1:30-4:00. Call (415) 472-6577 or visit www.marinlrs.org. The fee for this service, payable in advance, is $50.00.
Family and Children’s Law Center
This agency provides low-cost (based on sliding fee schedule) legal representation in family law matters, including domestic violence. Address: 30 North San Pedro Road, Suite 245, San Rafael. Phone: (415) 492-9230.
