What is the difference between sealing and expunging a criminal case?

What is the difference between sealing and expunging a criminal case?

“Sealing” your case means the public will not be able to view your case in any capacity without a court order.

“Expunging” your record means that your criminal records will be destroyed, however, your name and case number will still appear in the Court’s Public Index system. To have your name/case removed from the Public Index (and from public view) you must petition to have your criminal records sealed. For more information, click here.
