Individuals who want to plead 'guilty' to a citation but are requesting some special consideration from the Court may attend walk-in traffic court. Typically, individuals go to court to arrange for payment plans longer than 90 days, request traffic school when they are not otherwise eligible, or provide other information to the court about the circumstances pertaining to the citation.

This court hearing is called "walk-in" because individuals do not need to schedule their appearances ahead of time. For the public's convenience, this is a drop in court session.

Registration for walk-in traffic court is on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday, except holidays, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The court session begins at 10:00 a.m. on those days. A Spanish language interpreter is usually available at this court session.

No person shall appear in court unless wearing appropriate attire. Shorts and tank or halter tops are not considered by the Court to be proper courtroom attire. Pagers, cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during court.

Individuals must bring their citations or courtesy notices to court, along with any other information they wish to present.

Overview

The Traffic Clerk's Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except holidays. The office is located on the Court Floor of the Marin County Civic Center Hall of Justice in Room C-10. For directions to the Civic Center, please click here.

The Marin County Civic Center has three drive-though arches. From the middle arch lobby only, take the elevator to the "C" floor. After passing through security screening, go left to the end of the hall to Room C-10. For individuals wishing to speak with a clerk in this office, please call (415) 444-7180 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Calls are answered in the order received. Since these phone lines are very busy, the best times to call are early afternoons.

Spanish Language Services

The Traffic Clerk's Office has several Spanish speaking clerks to assist the public and some forms are also available for review in Spanish. In court hearings, there is usually a Spanish language interpreter in the courtroom to assist non-English speakers at these hearings.
